This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

Illustration for Arms Bill

The chief executive may say yes to a pistol shooting club's application if they think the club will use a pistol shooting range. They must also think the club has good rules for safely using firearms and pistols. The chief executive needs to believe the club is well organised and can manage its shooting activities safely. The club must have a safe place to store firearms and ammunition at its premises or range. The chief executive looks at all these things when deciding about the application. You can think of it like a checklist to make sure the club is responsible and safe. The chief executive wants to make sure the club can look after its members and the community. They consider whether the club has good rules and storage for firearms. This helps the chief executive make a decision about the application.
