Permits to import
202Notification of importation
This section applies to a person who imports an arms item or ammunition into New Zealand under a permit to import.
A person to whom this section applies must, within 30 days after the date on which the arms item or ammunition is imported, notify the chief executive of the matters specified in subsection (3) by—
- delivering a notice in writing in hard copy form approved by the chief executive to the chief executive if the application for the permit to import the arms item or ammunition was made in writing in hard copy form; or
- lodging a notice electronically through an internet site if the application for the permit to import the arms item or ammunition was made electronically through an internet site; or
- providing the information in a manner or form approved by the chief executive for the purposes of the registry.
The matters that must be notified are—
- the full name of the applicant; and
- the address and occupation of the applicant; and
- the quantity of the arms item or ammunition imported; and
- the description and country of origin of the arms item or ammunition imported, including the identification marking of the arms item; and
- the name of the manufacturer of the arms item or ammunition; and
- the place at which the arms item or ammunition landed in New Zealand; and
- the date of importation; and
- the date on which and the place at which the permit to import was issued.
A person commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a term of imprisonment not exceeding 3 months, or to a fine not exceeding $1,000, if the person, without reasonable excuse, contravenes this section.
