This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

Illustration for Arms Bill

If you are part of a pistol shooting club, an officer of the Arms Regulator can stop the club's operations for a short time. This can happen if the officer thinks the club has not followed an improvement notice given under section 243. The officer must give the club a written notice saying why the operations are being stopped and when the stoppage starts. You will also be told that the stoppage is so the Arms Regulator can think about cancelling the club's certificate of approval. The stoppage will last until you are told what the Arms Regulator has decided, but it will end after 90 days if you have not been told by then. The notice will tell you all these details in writing.

Compliance

244Temporary suspension of pistol shooting club’s operations for non-compliance with improvement notice

  1. An officer of the Arms Regulator may, by notice in writing to a pistol shooting club, temporarily suspend the operations of the shooting club if the officer is satisfied that the shooting club has failed to comply with an improvement notice issued under section 243.

  2. A notice of temporary suspension must state—

  3. the ground on which the notice is given; and
    1. the date on which the suspension begins; and
      1. that the suspension is to enable the Arms Regulator to consider cancelling the pistol shooting club’s certificate of approval; and
        1. that the suspension lasts until notice of the decision as to whether to cancel the certificate of approval is given to the pistol shooting club, but, if the notice is not given within 90 days after the suspension takes effect, the suspension ends with the close of that 90-day period.
