This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

249: Person in possession of arms item or ammunition must give identifying information to Police

You could also call this:

"Tell Police your details if they ask, if you have a gun or ammo"

Illustration for Arms Bill

If you have a gun or ammunition, you must tell the Police your name, address, and date of birth if they ask. You need to do this if a Police officer in uniform or with a Police ID asks you. They want to know who you are. If you do not tell the Police your name, address, or date of birth, or if you give them wrong information, the Police can warn you. If you still refuse to give them the correct information, the Police can arrest you. You do not have to be doing anything wrong for the Police to ask you for this information. If you refuse to give the Police your name, address, or date of birth without a good reason, or if you give them false information, you can get in trouble. You might have to pay a fine of up to $10,000 or go to prison for up to 6 months. This is because you are not following the rules that the proposed law says you must follow.
