If you have a current firearms licence and you apply for a new one before it expires, and your application meets the required criteria, the chief executive may extend your current licence. They can extend it by up to 3 years while they decide on your new application. They will reissue your current licence with the new expiry date. If your licence is reissued, it starts from the original expiry date and stays valid until you are told about the decision on your new application. You keep using the reissued licence until then, unless you give it back or it is taken away. If you get a new licence, it starts from the day it is issued.
