This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

Illustration for Arms Bill

The chief executive can approve your application if they are satisfied you have a firearms licence and meet the requirements. You need to have a firearms licence and meet the prescribed requirements for approval. The chief executive's approval will take effect from the date it is given or a later date specified. The chief executive looks at your application made under section 171. They check if you have a firearms licence and if you meet the requirements. If your application is declined, the chief executive must give you a copy of the information they used to make that decision. You will also get a chance to make written submissions about that information. The chief executive must give you this opportunity before declining your application. This is part of the process for applying for approval under the proposed Arms Bill.
