Building Act 2004

Building - Code compliance certificates, certificates of acceptance, and compliance schedules - Certificates of acceptance

97: How to apply for certificate of acceptance

You could also call this:

“You need to fill out a special form, provide plans, pay fees, and include other important information when asking for a certificate that says your building work is okay.”

You need to follow these steps when you apply for a certificate of acceptance:

You must fill out the right form. This form is set by the government.

If you have plans and specifications, you need to include them. The rules say what kind of plans you need. If there are no specific rules, the local council will tell you what they want.

You might need to give more information if the local council asks for it.

You have to pay fees to the local council. These fees are set out in section 219.

If you’re applying because you did building work without getting permission first, you need to pay the fees you would have paid if you had asked for permission before starting.

If you have a project information memorandum for your building work, you need to include it. This memorandum comes from section 34.

If your building needs a compliance schedule because of the work you’ve done, you need to list all the special systems in the building.

If you need to change an existing compliance schedule because of your building work, you need to list all the special systems that you’re changing, adding, or removing from the building.
