Building Act 2004

Regulatory responsibilities and accreditation - Responsibilities of chief executive - Powers of chief executive to investigate building failures

207M: Power to require information or documents

You could also call this:

“The chief executive can ask anyone for information to help figure out why a building failed.”

The chief executive can ask you for information or documents that they think might help figure out why a building failed. They will send you a written notice that tells you what information or documents they need, how you should give it to them, and when you need to do it by. You have to give them what they ask for by the deadline they set. The chief executive is allowed to make copies of the information or documents you give them, or keep them.

If the chief executive refers to another part of the law, you can find more information about it by following the link they provide. Remember, you must do what the notice says, even if you don’t want to.
