400: Regulations: building code
or “Rules for how buildings should work and be safe, made by important people in the government”

You could also call this:

“Rules about how to build things properly and safely that everyone must follow.”

The Governor-General can make rules about how to follow the building code. These rules can say what solutions or ways to check things are okay to use. They can also say when you have to use these solutions or checks. The rules might say when you need to use building products or methods that have a special certificate.

If the Governor-General makes these rules, they need to say if the rules apply to building work that has started but isn’t finished yet.

These rules are a special kind of law. You can find out how they are shared with everyone by looking at Part 3 of the Legislation Act 2019.
