Building Act 2004

Regulatory responsibilities and accreditation - Responsibilities of chief executive - Functions, duties, and powers of chief executive generally

171: Chief executive may seek advice from building advisory panel

You could also call this:

"The boss of the building department can ask a group of experts for help with making decisions."

The chief executive can ask a building advisory panel for advice at any time. You can think of the building advisory panel like a group of experts who help the chief executive make good decisions. The chief executive might ask the panel about new trends in building design or technologies that could affect the building code, which is like a set of rules for building things.

The chief executive can also ask the panel if the current laws and regulations are working well, or if there are building issues that should be dealt with by new laws. The panel can give advice on these things, as well as any other matters the chief executive thinks are important, like guidance information published under section 175 or warnings and bans under section 26(2).

The chief executive has to think about the advice given by the panel, but they do not have to follow it.
