Illustration for Building Act 2004

You need a certificate of work for a non-consented small stand-alone dwelling. This is if you submit final design plans under section 42B(4)(b) for the building work. The plans must be with a certificate of work if they have restricted building work. You get the certificate of work from a licensed building practitioner who did or supervised the design work. The certificate must identify the restricted building work as defined in section 7(1). It must also state that the design work meets the building code. The certificate of work does not make the licensed building practitioner liable for anything related to the certificate. It also does not create any new civil liability to the owner that would not exist without the certificate.
