86: Offence to engage another person to carry out or supervise restricted building work if person is not licensed building practitioner
or “It's against the law to hire someone who isn't properly licensed to do or oversee special building jobs.”

You could also call this:

“You must tell the building authority who will do the special work on your house before it starts.”

You need to tell the building consent authority in writing about the licensed building practitioners who will do restricted building work before it starts. This includes anyone who wasn’t listed when you applied for the building consent.

If someone stops working on the project or a new person starts, you must let the building consent authority know in writing as soon as you can. You need to say what has changed and give the name of any new licensed building practitioner.

You don’t have to do this if the licensed building practitioner is an unpaid friend or family member helping you as an owner-builder.

If you want to know more about applying for a building consent, you can look at section 45(1)(e).
