239: Building consent authority must provide information to chief executive
or “A special group must tell the boss some important details about buildings.”

You could also call this:

“The council can ask you to pay money for building permits and other services, and they must collect a special fee for the government.”

You can be charged a fee by a building consent authority when you apply for a building consent or when they provide other services under the Building Act. The building consent authority must also collect a levy that you need to pay to the chief executive.

If you don’t pay the fee, charge, or levy, the building consent authority can refuse to do the work for you. However, even if you don’t pay, the building consent authority still has to give certain information to the territorial authority.

The building consent authority can ask you to pay before they do any work for you. This helps make sure they get paid for their services.

Remember, these rules are part of the Building Act 2004. If you want to know more about the levy you need to pay to the chief executive, you can look at section 53 of the Act. Also, if you’re curious about what information the building consent authority must give to the territorial authority, you can check section 238.
