Building Act 2004

Regulatory responsibilities and accreditation - Miscellaneous responsibilities - Chief executive must keep registers

275A: Content of EPB register

You could also call this:

“The register lists important details about buildings that are at risk in earthquakes.”

The EPB register must contain specific information about buildings or parts of buildings that a territorial authority decides are earthquake prone. This information includes the name of the authority that made the decision, the address of the building, whether it’s a priority building, the date of the EPB notice, and the earthquake rating. The register also needs to show the deadline for completing seismic work, unless there’s an exemption. If there is an exemption or an extension for completing the work, those details must be included too.

If the building owner hasn’t provided an engineering assessment, the territorial authority can proceed as if the building is earthquake prone. In this case, the register won’t show an earthquake rating. Instead, it will say that the authority is proceeding as if the building is earthquake prone because the owner hasn’t provided an assessment. It will also mention that the EPB notice uses the form for the lowest earthquake ratings, and that the actual rating hasn’t been determined.

The register must include any other information required by section 401C(e).
