Building Act 2004

Regulatory responsibilities and accreditation - Miscellaneous responsibilities - Chief executive must keep registers

275A: Content of EPB register

You could also call this:

"What's in the Earthquake Prone Buildings register?"

The EPB register is a list that must contain certain information about buildings that are earthquake prone. You will find the name of the territorial authority that decided the building is earthquake prone, the address of the building, and whether it is a priority building. The register also includes the date of the EPB notice, the earthquake rating of the building, and the deadline for completing seismic work as stated in section 133AM, section 133AMA, section 133AMB, or section 133AMC, unless an exemption is in force under section 133AN.

If a building has an exemption from seismic work, the register will have details of this exemption under section 133AN. You might also find information about an extension of time to complete seismic work under section 133AO, including any conditions imposed by the territorial authority as stated in section 133AO(5)(b). The register may include other information as prescribed under section 401C(e).

In some cases, the territorial authority might not have determined if a building is earthquake prone, but will proceed as if it is, because the owner has not provided an engineering assessment, as per section 133AK(4). In this situation, the register will state that the authority has not determined the earthquake rating and that the EPB notice is in a certain form as described in section 401C(a).
