444: What happens if approved building certifier applies to be registered as building consent authority by 31 May 2006

“Certified building checkers can still approve buildings while becoming official authorities”

If you are an approved building certifier and you apply to be registered as a building consent authority by 31 May 2006, you can do something special during a certain time period. This time period starts when this law begins and ends on 30 November 2007. It’s called the transitional period.

During this transitional period, you can issue two types of documents for building work that had a building consent before this law started. You can give out either a building certificate under section 56 of the old law, or a code compliance certificate under section 95 of the new law.

This rule only applies to building work that already had a building consent before this part of the law came into effect. It gives you, as an approved building certifier, some flexibility in what kind of certificates you can issue during this change-over time.
