Building Act 2004

Preliminary provisions - Outline of responsibilities under this Act

14C: Responsibilities of owner-builder

You could also call this:

“The owner-builder must make sure their building work follows the agreed plans and rules.”

If you are an owner-builder, you have a specific responsibility. You must make sure that any restricted building work you do under the owner-builder exemption follows the building consent. This means the work needs to match the plans and specifications that were approved in the building consent. It’s your job to check that everything is done correctly according to these documents.
