Building Act 2004

Regulatory responsibilities and accreditation - Responsibilities of regional authorities - Functions, duties, and powers of regional authorities generally

241: Regional authority must gain accreditation and be registered

You could also call this:

“Regional authorities must get special permission and be officially listed to check if dams are safe.”

If you want to be a building consent authority for dams, you need to do three things. First, you must apply for and get accreditation. Second, you need to apply to be registered as a building consent authority. Third, you have to keep your accreditation and registration up to date all the time.

There are two exceptions to this rule. You don’t have to do these things if you give your job to another regional authority. Also, if you pass on some of your tasks to another regional authority, you don’t need to follow these rules for those specific tasks.

You can transfer your jobs to another regional authority if you want to.
