Building Act 2004

Building - Code compliance certificates, certificates of acceptance, and compliance schedules - Certificates of acceptance

99A: Refusal of application for certificate of acceptance

You could also call this:

“If the council says no to your building certificate request, they must tell you why in writing.”

If you apply for a certificate of acceptance and the local council (called a territorial authority) decides not to give you one, they have to tell you about it in writing. In their letter, they need to clearly say that they’re not giving you the certificate. They also have to explain why they made this decision. This helps you understand the reasons behind their choice to not give you the certificate of acceptance.
