You can look at these registers for free at the Ministry’s main office during reasonable hours. If you want a copy of a register or part of it, you can ask for one, but you might need to pay a small fee.

The chief executive can keep these registers electronically, like on the Ministry’s website, or in any other way they think is best. The earthquake-prone buildings register must allow both the chief executive and territorial authorities to add and update information.

These registers should be available most of the time. However, the chief executive can stop access to a register or pause its operation if they think it’s not practical to provide access. Also, some regulations might change when the registers are available.

273Chief executive must keep registers

  1. The chief executive must establish and maintain the following registers:

  2. a register of national multiple-use approvals:
    1. a register of earthquake-prone buildings for the purposes of subpart 6A of Part 2 (the EPB register):
      1. a register of building consent authorities for the purposes of section 191:
          1. a register of accredited dam owners notified to the chief executive under section 260:
            1. a register of product certification bodies for the purposes of sections 267A to 267E:
              1. a register of product certificates for the purposes of sections 272A to 272D:
                1. a register of modular component manufacturer certification bodies for the purposes of sections 272N to 272T:
                  1. a register of modular component manufacturers for the purposes of sections 272Y to 272ZE.
                    1. The chief executive must—

                    2. make each register available for public inspection, without fee, at reasonable hours at the head office of the Ministry; and
                      1. supply to any person, on request and on payment of a reasonable charge, a copy of each register or part of each register.
                        1. Each register may be kept—

                        2. as an electronic register (for example, on the Ministry's website); or
                          1. in any other manner that the chief executive thinks fit.
                            1. The EPB register must be kept in a manner that enables territorial authorities, as well as the chief executive, to record and update information in the register.

                            2. Each register must be operated at all reasonable times unless—

                            3. the chief executive suspends the operation of the register, in whole or in part, in accordance with subsection (5); or
                              1. otherwise provided in regulations made under section 402.
                                1. The chief executive may refuse access to a register or otherwise suspend the operation of the register, in whole or in part, if the chief executive considers that it is not practical to provide access to the register.
