Building Act 2004

Building - Building work—Project information memoranda and building consents - Building levy

63: Chief executive may obtain information in order to assess amount of levy payable

You could also call this:

"The chief executive can ask for information to work out your building levy payment."

The chief executive can ask you for information about the value of building work if you are applying for a building consent. They need this information to work out how much levy you have to pay under section 53. You might be asked for this information if you are the person applying for the consent, the building consent authority, or the territorial authority.

If you give the chief executive information, you can ask them to keep it confidential. The chief executive must keep the information confidential if it does not go against any other law.

If you do not give the chief executive the information they ask for, you can get in trouble. You might have to pay a fine of up to $5,000 if you are an individual, or up to $25,000 if you are a company.
