89: Licensed building practitioner must notify building consent authority of breaches of building consent
or “If a builder sees that work isn't following the plan, they must tell the council and the owner right away.”

You could also call this:

“The law says people from the building office can check on buildings and building work to make sure it's being done right.”

When you get a building consent, you agree to let people from the building consent authority come and check on the work. These people are called agents. They can come during normal work hours or when building work is happening.

The agents can look at the land where the building work is happening or will happen. They can also look at the building work itself, whether it’s happening at the building site or somewhere else. They’re allowed to inspect any building too.

Your building consent might have some specific rules about inspections. Even if it doesn’t, the rules in this section still apply.

When we say ‘inspection’, we mean the agents will do everything they reasonably can to make sure the building work follows what’s in the building consent.
