Building Act 2004

Regulatory responsibilities and accreditation - Responsibilities relating to product certification - Accreditation of product certification bodies

263: Accreditation of product certification body

You could also call this:

“A group checks if people can give out certificates for building products properly”

You can ask the product certification accreditation body to make you a product certification body. To do this, you need to apply and maybe pay a fee. The accreditation body will say yes if they think you can do the job well.

To get accredited, you need to show that you can do the work properly, fairly, and consistently. You also need to be open about how you work and take responsibility for what you do. You must have ways of working that help you do all of this.

Your ways of working need to follow the rules set out in the law. There are special rules called “product certification scheme rules” that you also need to follow.

When you apply, you need to write down your application. You might need to do this in a certain way and include specific information if the rules say so.
