In the Building Act 2004, a building method is a way of using products or things to do building work. You can also think of it as a way of doing building work that the Governor-General says is a building method. The Governor-General can declare that a certain method is or is not a building method by making an Order in Council, which is a type of secondary legislation (see https://legislation.govt.nz/act/public/1986/0120/latest/link.aspx?id=DLM7298343 for publication requirements).

      1. However, a method that would otherwise be a building method under subsection (1)(a) is not a building method if it is declared by the Governor-General by Order in Council not to be a building method.
