Building Act 2004

Regulatory responsibilities and accreditation - Responsibilities relating to product certification - Registration of product certificates

272B: Suspension of registration of product certificate

You could also call this:

“When the government temporarily stops a product's approval, they must tell everyone involved and update their records.”

If a product certificate is suspended under section 271, its registration is automatically suspended too. This means the certificate can’t be used for a while.

The chief executive can also suspend a product certificate’s registration for a set time if they think:

  1. The responsible Product Certification Body (PCB) hasn’t followed the rules for product certification, or
  2. The owner of the building product or method hasn’t followed these rules.

When a product certificate’s registration is suspended, the chief executive must do two things:

  1. Tell the responsible PCB and the owner of the building product or method in writing. They need to explain why it’s suspended and what this means according to section 272D(1)(b).

  2. Update the register to show the suspension.

This helps make sure everyone knows about the suspension and why it happened.
