Building Act 2004

Miscellaneous provisions - Other offences and criminal proceedings - Proceedings for infringement offences

371A: Who may issue infringement notices

You could also call this:

“People allowed to give out tickets for breaking building rules”

You can get an infringement notice from two types of people. The first is someone the chief executive has allowed to do this job. The second is an officer from your local council who has been given permission by the council to give out these notices.

When the law talks about a ‘person’ in this part and in some other parts, it means a real human being, not a company or group.

If you want to know more about who can give out infringement notices, you can look at section 371B. For information about what happens after you get a notice, check section 371D.
