Building Act 2004

Miscellaneous provisions - Other offences and criminal proceedings - Offences relating to administration of Act

366: Offence to impersonate building consent authority or regional authority, etc

You could also call this:

“It's against the law to pretend you're a building official when you're not.”

You must not pretend to be a building consent authority or regional authority. You also must not pretend to be an officer or employee of these authorities.

If you do pretend to be one of these people or organisations, you are breaking the law. This is called an offence. If you are found guilty of this offence, you will be punished. The punishment depends on whether you are an individual person or a company.

If you are an individual person, you might have to pay a fine of up to $50,000. If you are a company, you might have to pay a fine of up to $150,000.
